Some teams and fan bases speak this way of opportunities ahead, at times of high optimism in advance of unique seasons where all the right players return and maybe everything will align. It’s in jeopardy every year, of course, but particularly fragile this season, it seems, as the Huskies prepare for the NCAA Tournament.which begins Saturday against Vermont at Gampel Pavilion. If UConn’s streak of 14 consecutive Final Four appearances isn’t an achievement to match the team’s 11 national championships or 111-game winning streak, it isn’t far off. So as the Huskies came down the stretch through one uncomfortably close game after another - some of them victories, some of them losses - it was only natural to consider the state of, perhaps, the most impressive accomplishment in program history. UConn lost back-to-back games this season for the first time in 20 years, and two conference games for the first time in 10.
